The ultimate exhaust system for your naturally aspirated first-generation Mazda RX-7. Every exhaust section has been designed, test-fitted and jigged in-house at our Capalaba workshop to create a repeatable bolt-on system with excellent fitment, ground clearance and power potential.
The system features twin 2″ primary tubes from the headers through the resonated mid-section, joining through a tight angle merge collector at the rear axle, and exiting via a single 2.5″ rear section. V-band connections divide the exhaust into four easily removable sections: headers, resonated mid-pipes, collector and rear muffler section. All straight sections of the exhaust system are cut using a CNC tube laser for optimal fitment and weld purity.
The headers are fabricated from back-purged 304 stainless steel and feature a 12mm engine flange. Twin flex joints help to account for engine movement and thermal expansion, and dedicated O2/EGT sensor bungs are optional. Our header jig can accommodate both 12A and 13B engine arrangements. Header flanges are surfaced after welding to ensure a perfectly flat sealing face.
The twin mid-pipes use large-body 3.5″ resonators, and have been designed around standard mandrel-bend geometry rather than heavily cut and fabricated bends. This keeps the internal exhaust path smooth while allowing accurate, repeatable jig production.
At the rear, the twin 2″ primary pipes merge into a 2.5″ stainless collector and over-axle exhaust, with multiple muffler and outlet configurations available (see below).
Features:
- Complete 304 stainless steel construction
- 12A and 13B header configurations available
- X-Force or premium AES resonator/muffler configurations
- Dumped single 3.5″ or twin 2.5″ outlet options
- Dedicated stainless hangers and mounting hardware included
- Fully TIG-welded construction
- Includes new exhaust rubbers and associated brackets to replace worn factory items
- Complete system can be easily removed in individual sections for servicing or transport
Muffler and Exhaust Tip Options:
Two muffler configurations have been tested on our development RX-7. The standard X-Force muffler configuration produces a more aggressive, raspier note, and sounds fantastic at high RPM. The premium AES muffler configuration has a smoother, quieter and more refined exhaust tone, and also sounds great at high RPM. We offer either a twin 2.5″ factory style exhaust tip, or a dumped 3.5″ mandrel bent exhaust tip.
Under our controlled comparison test, measured 500 mm from the exhaust outlet at a 45-degree angle on a standard 12A vehicle, we recorded:
- X-Force: 83 dB at idle / 98 dB at 4,500 rpm / 110dB free revving
- AES: 81 dB at idle / 93 dB at 4,500 rpm / 110dB free revving
Additional Notes:
Base price includes X-Force muffler/resonators and 3.5″ dumped exhaust outlet. AES mufflers, twin 2.5″ exhaust outlets and other options can be selected when ordering. Lead times are 2-4 weeks depending on options selected, updates are sent throughout the fabrication process.
For International and long range domestic orders a slip joint is fitted to the rear pipe. This reduces boxed length, and significantly reduce shipping costs. This modification has no effect on performance and sound. The system has currently been developed and physically validated on a 1985 Series 3 FB RX-7. Series 1 and Series 2 fitment is currently being verified.
Sound measurements are provided as comparative test data only. Actual vehicle noise will vary with engine specification, porting and measurement conditions. They should not be interpreted as a guarantee of road or regulatory compliance.
